H Yacht in Fort Lauderdale

3 Systems in One Superyacht, Done in 3 Weeks

Project: Yacht Automation

A superyacht owner wanted to upgrade an existing outdated system and outfit it with a new Control4 hardware and OS. There was no problem about using the same brand as well as the look, feel, and performance found in his smart homes’ control systems.‍

Challenge

The challenge was to do the work in just three weeks in Fort Lauderdale, Florida so the owner can set sail for Europe in no time. The work involved integrating audio, video, over-the-air and/or satellite TV, lighting control, and shades control. There was also the challenge of ‍working in a limited working space as well as the fact that electronics and humidity on a boat docked in a pier don’t work well together.

Solutions

3 systems, 3 weeks, 1 superyacht

Premium Digital Control made Control4’s system hardware and OS the dominant system on top of two other older systems in this $20-million superyacht. The work involved integrating audio, video, over-the-air and/or satellite TVs, lighting and shade control.

Since the superyacht was manufactured in Italy by Bennetti and its engineers provided the bare minimum infrastructure for customization to comply with industry standards, our team had to comply with Bicsi and CEDIA standards while working with their pre-existing calculations to create a custom environment suitable to the superyacht owner.

‍Our expert technicians programmed Control4 on the superyacht’s pre-existing lighting and shades control system from Italy as well as the audio, video, and pool with the simple touch of a button. The electronics and systems on board can withstand the elements now with its design and chosen systems. The superyacht is now fully automated. Its current Yachtica system was integrated with Control4 while Crestron served as the main bridge for communication.

‍Breakdown

Audio distribution

Premium Digital Control selected the installation of a sound system with Audio Control’s distributed audio matrix amplifiers to make it also work in an outdoor setting. It features centralized audio/video collections from multiple sources while allowing selection of music or movies from any room on the vessel.‍

Video distribution

Premium Digital Control chose the highly responsive AV ProEdge as it easily integrates with AVPro’s drivers which was also a breeze to set up in the superyacht. It allowed more than enough output for the client’s AV needs.

Integration control

The unique integration of the European lighting system from Yachtica Systems into Control4’s system made for a supple customizable experience. With Control4, the superyacht owner can remotely control lights, automate exterior running lights to allow the crew to move around safely; trigger lights to automatically turn on, off, or dim, based on the detected lights or specific times of the day.

Over-the-air TV and satellite TV

DishNetwork and SkyTV. Premium Digital Control gave the mariner the option to watch Over-the-Air TV shows broadcast from local TV stations on his TV with an OTA antenna. A satellite TV with omni-directional antenna was also mounted at least four feet away from the radar and communication gear to diminish interference.

Lighting control

Both Control4 and Yachtica controls allow fully programmable multifunction outputs. With Control4, the superyacht owner can remotely control lights, automate exterior running lights to allow the crew to move around safely; trigger lights to automatically turn on, off, or dim, based on the detected lights or specific times of the day.

Shades control

Control4/Crestron/Yachtica to complement the pre-existing shades design

Open and closing blinds, according to when the sun sets or the skies become cloudy to allow for optimum levels of natural light
